The DOB made it a little easier for homeowners wanting to install rooftop solar panels. Now professional certification is allowed on projects participating in the Solar Panel Tax Abatement program. Visits with plan examiners are no longer required.
The Department has always extended professional certification to projects that do not participate in tax abatement. These projects can also have plan examination with self-certification of objections through the HUB. By eschewing plan examination, professional certification lessens filing costs and speeds up the permit process. All professional certification applications are subject to audit.
Only solar installations with 10 kw power, installed on one or two family homes on pitched roofs with a slope 20 degrees or more can qualify for Solar Panel Tax Abatement.
