While most of the discussion surrounding Local Law 126 of 2021 has been regarding the new parking garage inspection requirements, the law also contains a new requirement for annual parapet inspections that’s worth taking note of.

When the new building code went into effect on November 7, 2022, Chapter 3 was updated to include section 28-301.1.1 which codifies a new annual parapet inspection requirement for most buildings, to be performed as described in the rules of the department.

Formal promulgation of these rules, which are drafted, and were previously scheduled to be effective July 1, 2023, has been postponed and is now tentatively scheduled for implementation January 1, 2024.

Once implemented, these annual inspections will be required in addition to the Local Law 11 inspections required every 5 years. You can review the current text of the rules using the resource links below.
