New York’s Landmarks Preservation Commission released a citywide interactive Landmark map called Discover Landmarks NYC. The map highlights all landmarked buildings and districts in New York. Each building or district is clickable, providing an image and brief description. It’s a fun map that aims to educate locals and tourists about the architectural heritage of New York.

Here are the different types of landmarks you can find on the map:

Interior Landmarks are buildings where the interior of a building is landmarked. Many buildings with interior landmarking are completely landmarked. Examples of interior landmarks include 30 Rockefeller Center and the Seagram Building.

Individual Landmarks are buildings that are landmarked, but are not in Historic Districts.

Scenic Landmarks are typically outdoors and include natural areas like City Parks.

Historic Districts are landmarked districts or neighborhoods comprised of historic buildings that have maintained a similar architectural character. Some Historic Districts include the SoHo-Cast Iron Historic District, the Greenwich Village Historic District and the Ladies’ Mile Historic District.

Calendared Individual / Interior Landmarks are interior or entire buildings that are in queue to be reviewed by the Landmarks Preservation Commission. Buildings in queue assume all the protections of a landmarked building.

Calendared Historic Districts / Scenic Landmarks are interior districts that are in queue to be reviewed by the Landmarks Preservation Commission. Districts in queue assume all the protections of a landmarked district.
